How long treated syphilis

Treatment of syphilis can be prescribed only by a doctor-venereal diseases after proper diagnosis verification. The doctor also determines the duration of the treatment which depends on symptoms and stage of disease in a particular patient.

So how much treated syphilis? What drugs are used?

Treatment of primary syphilis

Primary syphilis is established at presence of symptoms of erosive or ulcer on the skin or mucous membranes in the genital area (called a chancre) or in another area depending on the point of entry of the pathogen (ectopic location).

The defect is usually right round, painless, has a scanty discharge. It can almost not to disturb the patient, which has led to late treatment to the doctor. In addition to the presence of the chancre, the patient developed local (so-called regional) inflammation of the lymph nodes on one or both sides.

According to the Ministry of health of the Russian Federation of 25.07.2003 № 327 in the treatment of first stage infection with first-line drugs are the penicillins (subject to their good tolerance and absence of allergic reactions). They are the first-line drugs in the treatment of the primary form of pregnant women.

The basic scheme of treatment with penicillin are listed below:

If you have experienced allergic reactions antibiotics are used by other groups because of their greater toxicity, greater severity of side effects and less pronounced influence on the pathogen (pale Treponema). It can be antibiotics of three groups: cephalosporins, macrolides and aminoglycosides.

The timing of treatment of secondary syphilis

In the second stage (secondary syphilis) treatment longer and is at least 20-30 days.

Symptoms of secondary syphilis includes:

  1. The appearance of the characteristic rash on the skin and mucous membranes in 1.5-2 months after the formation of the primary element. It is a rich, bright color and small size, has a symmetrical nature of the arrangement. The rash reduced in size without treatment, but after 1.5 month there is a "new wave", etc. Without treatment stage lasts about 5 years. Elements of the rash are diverse: while there may be nodules and blisters, and blemishes.
  2. Symptoms of intoxication: weakness, pain in the joints and bones, low-grade fever, loss of appetite.

Therefore, it is important the appearance of any rash refer to a dermatologist.

The drugs of choice in the treatment of second-stage penicillins schemes:

The timing of the treatment of tertiary syphilis

The third stage is the most unfavourable in terms of prognosis for the patient: only about 1% of patients can fully recover after the first course of antibiotics.

The majority (84,5%) patientsit requires long-term (up to 3 years) therapy with a questionable effect of the use of antibiotics.

Tertiary syphilis develops in patients with a second stage that received inadequate therapy (including the self) or not received it at all. Also dangerous is the infected by this infection in the presence of immunodeficiency States (HIV infection, congenital immunodeficiencies, tuberculosis, etc.).

Symptoms of tertiary syphilis include:

  1. Rashes on the skin, mucous membranes (at 30%).
  2. The Central nervous system, internal organs (heart and aorta, lungs, liver), musculoskeletal system etc.

Thus, the third stage is already a systemic disease.

Its treatment also is the use of injections of penicillin long courses in the dosage of 1 million UNITS 4 times a day for 28 days, with a repeated course in 2 weeks. However, the level of evidence is class C, which means low efficiency of this therapy. Drug the second row can be "Ceftriaxone".

It is therefore very important when there is any suspicion of syphilis on time to seek medical help.
